“One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the house of the LORD.” ~ Ps 27:4 (full readings)
.

Shane’s Reflections: The house of the Lord – the Temple planned by David, built by Solomon, rebuilt by Zerubbabel and Joshua, rededicated by Judas Maccabeus, and enlarged by Herod.  Under the Old Covenant it was God’s house, Heaven’s embassy on earth.  Under the New Covenant however we discover the realities to which the Temple pointed – Jesus, His Church, and the fullness of life in Christ that the Church will enjoy in Heaven!  To “dwell” in these New Covenant realities requires intentionality on our part – in the words of the psalm, we “seek.”  And we do this most succesfully in prayer – where we “ask.”

Faith Challenge: Under the New Covenant there is yet another reality foreshadowed by Jerusalem’s Temple:  our earthly sanctuaries where our Lord Jesus dwells under the appearance of bread in the tabernacle or monstrance.  Take advantage of His nearness by visiting Him in a church or adoration chapel today.  Spend a few moments “dwelling” in His presence, and while you are there intercede with Him to save the lives of your unborn brothers and sisters.
