10 Aug 2 Cor 9:7 (Give Hope…Save Lives!) by Lindsey Bachman
“Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” ~ 2 Cor 9:7 (full readings)
Lindsey’s Reflections: I am inspired by those who daily work in the trenches of the pro-life movement. Pro-life workers embody the essence of cheerful giving as they face set-backs, disappointments and ridicule. When my father suffered a catastrophically disabling stroke in September 2009 (at the young age of 56), our family was given joyful hope by his therapists and rehabilitation doctors. But it was astonishing to discover that among the most hopeful people we encountered were those who were actually disabled and those who cared for them. These were the people who could be justifiably bitter or cynical, yet they are continuously joyful. My father, who is unable to speak or move (yet!), cannot talk about hope – he must show hope. And he shows hope by cheerfully giving to others a miraculous example of life. So, without sadness or compulsion, let us cheerfully give hope to others – especially those faced with the crucial decision of life.
