“Alexander the coppersmith did me a great deal of harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.”
~ 2 Tm 4:14 (full readings)
.
Kevin’s Reflections: How many people have done each of us “a great deal of harm?” How many of us have done others “a great deal of harm?” I suppose we could just sit back and allow ourselves to be hurt, but St. Paul goes on here to detail a plan of action to continue spreading the Gospel, and does not wallow in the harm that Alexander the coppersmith did to him. St. Paul also realizes that God does repay others according to their deeds, and perhaps more frighteningly, repays each of us according to our deeds! That is a less pleasant thought when we realize that we will be judged the same way as those who have done us wrong. When we are tempted to say or do something hurtful to others, pray for the strength to do the right thing and make God proud!
