15 Sep A Mother’s Cry (Jn 19:26-27) by Dr. Rich Reich
“Jesus said to His mother, ‘Woman, there is your son.’ In turn He said to the disciple, ‘There is your mother.’ “ ~ Jn 19:26-27 (full readings)

Rich’s Reflections: When a mother cries, a special power moves in the heart of each family member. When mom cries, we feel compelled to make peace and do whatever she tells us. I remember once growing up that my own mother cried one evening. She was feeling so hopeless and frustrated with my dad and I that we were not helping, and all of her stress broke her down into tears. I immediately felt compelled to do whatever she asked me, because I loved her so much and I felt bad that I had let her down. In the Gospel today, Jesus presents the care of His mother to His disciple. We are all disciples of Christ and have the responsibility of taking care of mothers in need. With the pro-life ministry, sometimes all of our passion goes towards saving and protecting the unborn child and sometimes we forget about the mother in need. If we were to turn our focus on the mother and her needs, she may not feel compelled to abort her child. As LIFE Runners, we need to be sensitive to the cry of a mother for help, so that she never feels that her only choice is to abort her child.
