“In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places; otherwise, how could I have told you that I was going to prepare a place for you?”

Rich’s Reflections:  In High School especially, but even in our adulthood, we are always looking for a way to fit in.  We long to be included in social events that are planned at work, or activities with our friends.  We don’t want to feel out-of-place or left out.  Look at social media like FaceBook and the trend in “friending”, where some people have thousands of “friends”.  Are these really friends, a measure of popularity, or just a desire to fit in?  We do not need to worry about fitting in with our present day culture.  In fact Jesus would have had problems fitting in with our modern politically correct society.  In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that we are not to be troubled, and that He has prepared a place for us.  He has prepared a place for us in heaven as well as a place for us on earth.  God has given us meaning in our life.  We fit into His plan by being included as members of Christ’s body, the Church.  We will continue to be disturbed and restless unless we take our place in the Church so as to build up the body of Christ.  Whether our place in the Church is to witness for Jesus on our jobs, disciple our children, build our marriages in Christ, pastor our parishes, pray in adoration, serve the poor, teach the Bible, defend the unborn, or be missionaries — we will not be troubled if by faith we have taken our God-given place in the Church.
