They will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. This will be a time for you to bear testimony.” ~ Lk 21:12-14 (full readings)
.
Lindsey’s Reflections: The devil hates truth and loves power. And what has more power over men than government? George Washington said that, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.” It should not then surprise those who defend the sanctity of life that our principal earthly opponent is government. Jesus himself was a victim of evil power. He warns of persecution by kings and governors for His name’s sake. Yet persecution is the time to bear your testimony. Wasn’t it for Jesus? And for the Saints who were martyred? Our Church is facing more persecution by our government than any of us can remember. Yet throughout history the Church has been a living testimony through persecution. So, now is the time to bear testimony, as our Bishops have so boldly done in opposing the HHS mandate. They know that persecution is powerful. Therefore, use it. Bear your testimony. We cannot waste it.
