“From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who died between the altar and the temple building. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood!” ~ Lk 11:51 (full readings)
.
Rich’s Reflections:  Jesus told the religious leaders of His time that their generation would have to account for the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world from A to Z (Abel to Zechariah).  Our generation is responsible for all of the unborn children who have been aborted.  This is a heavy weight for any one person to bear.  All the people in the world do not have the power to atone for even one sin.  Yet, all the sins of all time were atoned for by one Man, Jesus.  Jesus alone accounted for all sins.  One drop of His blood did what centuries of animal sacrifices and millions of good works could never do.  His blood atones for all the bloodshed and sins of the whole human race for all time.  Think of the sins and guilt of your whole life.  Multiply that by the sins of all the people that have lived or will live on this earth.  Include all the atrocities, tragedies, abortions, and wars of human history, and pack them all into three hours.  Then you have a sense of what Jesus went through on Calvary to atone for all sins.  What price Jesus has paid for our salvation!  What love Jesus has for us!  Let us give Him our lives, hearts, minds, and love in return.

Faith Quote:
“Three conditions are necessary for Penance: contrition, which is sorrow for sin, together with a purpose of amendment; confession of sins without any omission; and satisfaction by means of good works.” ~ St. Thomas Aquinas
