15 Jan Break Through the Crowd (Mk 2:2) by Dr. Rich Reich
“They began to gather in great numbers. There was no longer any room for them, even around the door.” ~ Mk 2:2 (full readings)
.Rich’s Reflections: In the Gospel today, we read about Jesus being surrounded by such large crowds that it was almost impossible to approach Him. There can often be major obstacles between us and Jesus. The media, our jobs, our lifestyles, and the whole culture of death can crowd us out of a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus. The same is true for the pregnant mother considering an abortion. She is overwhelmed by her situation, crowded by stress, and surrounded by false helpers with selfish motives serving as obstacles between her and making the right choice that her unborn child and her can live with. In helping mothers considering an abortion, we need to distinguish ourselves from the obstacles and not contribute to the confusion. We do this by showing God’s unending love and peace, which will shine a light guiding the mother to the right choice.
