“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. There is an appointed time for everything.  And there is a time for every event under heaven.” ~ 1 Tim 2:1-2 (full readings)

Pastor Rick’s Reflections:  Scripture tells us that when we say prayers of intercessions, we are building bridges between God and the people for whom we pray. Because Jesus has done the work of intercession and still intercedes for us with the Father, and because the Holy Spirit intercedes for us as well, helping us unburden ourselves, we can now intercede for others. The Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit have built bridges to God that we may cross over, so that we, too, can be in the bridge-building business. We have the incredible privilege of building a span from heaven to earth, from God to the person, group, leader or clinic for whom we are praying. Our first step is to take hold of God by acknowledging who He is and by thanking Him and praising Him for all He has done. As we connect with our heavenly Father, we bring the others we’re praying for before the throne until their way becomes His way. The key for us is noted by Jesus Himself as He said, “Pray always, and don’t give up.” I recently read a story about George Muller who prayed every day for fifty years for a friend to be saved. He was the only person yet to be saved that George interceded for daily. He never gave up. As Christian Life Runners, we can’t give up, nor become complacent in interceding for the lives of the unborn, those who choose to take life, family members, friends, co-workers or anyone else God lays on our hearts. In 2016 we are an army of bridge builders for the Kingdom of God.

Faith Challenge: Make this prayer a consistent focus in 2016 – Lord, thank You for building a bridge for us. We know all too well that we could have never crossed over into Life, into a relationship with God, not in a million years, if You hadn’t made a way for us. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, Who takes the heavy load of worries and fears off our shoulders and carries our burdens. Now, Lord, help us to build bridges for others. Help us to pray and not give up. Help us to hold on to You with one hand and our loved ones, friends, and those who need You with the other until their way becomes Your way, in Jesus Name we pray; Amen.
