Christian Ethics (1 Cor 2:13) by Pavel Arestov

06 Mar Christian Ethics (1 Cor 2:13) by Pavel Arestov

When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words Ethics-Right-and-Wrong-300x253given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.” ~ 1 Cor 2:13 (full readings)

Pavel’s Reflections:  In today’s day and age I hear an increasing number of people argue that morals and ethics without religion are greater than morals and ethics that are built on religious beliefs.  As our society continues to morally decay, many people begin to use that theory to justify their sinful actions.  Morals and ethics are hard to argue because most of them are a human interpretation of what is right and wrong.  Morals and ethics vary greatly from society to society, group to group, and individual to individual.  What is ethical to one society will not necessarily be ethical to another.  For instance, in the United States child labor is considered to be unethical, immoral, and illegal.  However, in many developing countries child labor is perfectly acceptable.  The morals of our society are extremely twisted, bias, and flawed.  Our society preaches a freedom of speech.  It encourages certain groups to speak out about their beliefs while forcing others to stay quiet.  Take the gospel to the streets, speak the truth and you will quickly be labeled a closed minded bigot and told to stop living in the Stone Age.  In the twisted views of our society it is ethical for Miley Cyrus to twerk on the national television, but it is unethical for the cast of Duck Dynasty to bow their heads for a prayer.  It is ethical and legal to abort a human fetus, but destruction of a bald eagle’s egg will be punished by two years in prison and fines up to $250,000.  A life of a bird is valued more than the life of a human.  Human interpretation of right and wrong is flawed, twisted, and just doesn’t make sense.  Unlike the ethics of our society that are based on flawed human ideologies, Christian ethics were forged by the word of God.  Christian ethics are founded on God’s wisdom.  They carry the truth and are the key to a sin-free life.  “When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.” 1 Cor 2:13  I encourage you to never abandon Christian values and ethics no matter what our decaying society says.  It will get tougher and we will get crucified by our peers, coworkers, and media for not conforming to the popular beliefs, but in the end it will be worth it.  We will all stand shamelessly in front of our Lord and proclaim that we have structured our lives around biblical ethics, preached them to the masses, and refused to conform to the wicked standards of the world.
