04 Mar Commitment to God (Jer 18:20) by Kevin McNicholas
“Must good be repaid with evil that they should dig a pit to take my life?” ~ Jer 18:20 (full readings)
.
Kevin’s Reflections: The First Reading today is from our son’s namesake and special patron, the prophet Jeremiah. Someone once asked me why we chose Jeremiah as a name for our son, as his book of the Bible was not as uplifting as certain others. My response was that Jeremiah followed God without concern for what went on around him, and didn’t care what others thought of him, but rather what God thought. Those are qualities that I pray for in both of our children, and in myself as well! Today’s patron Saint, St. Casimir, is the patron of Poland. Casimir was born a prince, and regardless of the pressures he faced to live a life of luxury, he renounced worldly things to follow God more completely. Both Jeremiah and St. Casimir have similar stories in terms of their fearless and unwavering commitment to God. In the end, God will see both how I influenced the world around me and how the world influenced me; today I am going to pray for the strength to follow Him regardless of what others say.
* Kevin is a School Social Worker in Southern Illinois. He and his wife Laura have been blessed with two living miracles: a 2 1/2 year old daughter named Elliana (“the Lord Answers”) and an 11 month old son named Jeremiah (“God is Exalted”). They have been blessed during the almost 9 years of their marriage to travel to Catholic pilgrimage sites worldwide, as well as to serve their Parish and community..
