“When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named apostles.” ~ Lk 6:13 (full readings)

Rich’s Reflections:   Discipleship focuses on actively following in the footsteps of Jesus by putting our faith into action.  As disciples of Christ, we share in His mission, His Joy, and His sufferings.  So how do we become good disciples?  Here are some of the lessons that Jesus taught His first disciples.  1.  Be resolute and intentional in your commitment to Jesus.  This can also be said of the pro-life mission.  Do not waiver in your commitment to protect the dignity of all human life.  There are no exceptions.  2.  In all things be charitable, especially in zealotry.  Jesus teaches that we should be patient with those who do not share in our beliefs or the depths of our passion.  This also holds true in our discussions with those who do not believe that abortion is morally wrong.  We should pray for them and be an example of God’s love.  3.  Disciples must be willing to lose everything for the Lord.  In our decision to surrender ourselves to Jesus and in the protection of the unborn, we must understand that there will be sacrifice and discrimination for our beliefs.  4.  The demand of discipleship outweighs all other priorities.  Nothing is more important than following Jesus and no mission is more important than protecting the dignity of all human life.  5.  Finally, discipleship requires that we let go of the past and live in the present according to the Will of God.  The concerns of the world can seem to hold us back from being authentic disciples in Christ and servants of the unborn, but the key is to not ignore life’s demands, but simply to integrate them into your life of faith.

Faith Quote:  “Jesus calls us to His rest, and meekness is His method. The meek man cares not at all who is greater than he, for he has long ago decided that the esteem of the world is not worth the effort.” ~ A.W. Tozer.
