24 Apr Do We Recognize Him? (Lk 24:39) by Dr. Kevin Vost

Kevin’s Reflection: When Jesus appeared to his apostles after his resurrection, at first they did not recognize him, even after they had been told that he had appeared to Simon. After bidding them peace, Jesus asked why they were troubled and asked them to look at him, at his hands, and at his feet. Do we recognize him in every mother’s womb? Do we have to see through an ultrasound image the tiny hands and tiny feet of the unborn boy or girl to know that he or she nestled within is no ghost, no lump of flesh, but an image and likeness of God, a member of the Body of Christ? Christ commanded us to love God with all that we are and to love our neighbor as ourselves, doing unto others as we would have them do unto us. We all had very tiny hands and feet at one time, and, thanks be to God, we were loved and we lived to grow along with them. Let’s ask ourselves what we can do to help spread the Good News of the value of every human life.

Faith Challenge: In what areas of life do you not recognize Christ? Do you see Him in the unborn? Recommit yourself today to seeing Christ in people and places where our culture does not.
.
Counter-Culture News: LifeSiteNews, LifeNews, American Family, Vatican, Project Rachel.
.
Our Prayers: Pray LIFE Runners Creed to end abortion. Add Prayers. Pray with meals, bedtime, wake up, unceasingly. Consider mid-week Family Rosary (17 min). Let’s pray now.
.
Feast Day: Saint Mary of Clopas. Mary, wife of Clopas, stood by the cross at Christ’s crucifixion (John 19:25). Some also hold that she was present on that fateful day described in today’s reading on the road to Emmaus when the resurrected Christ first revealed himself. We know that “Cleopas” was there (Luke 24:18). May St. Mary of Clopas inspire us today to revere and recognize life.
.
Faith Quote: “And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'” ~ Matthew 25:40
