“They allied themselves with the Gentiles and sold themselves to wrongdoing.” ~ Maccabees 1:15 (full readings)

Rich’s Reflections:   Today’s reading is about lawbreakers who have seduced others into wrongdoing.  Almost half of our population has sold out to the culture of death.  They are coerced by the seductive cries for reproductive rights and freedom of choice (i.e., the freedom of a woman to kill her unborn child).  Although there is a law that makes abortion legal, it does not mean that the law is just.  Many in our culture are blind to the cruel reality of abortion; images that many find too gruesome to show in public.  Images that disturb our conscience, because of the law that God has written on our hearts, “Thou Shalt Not Kill (Ex 20:13).”  They want to ignore the thought that what is being violently removed from a woman’s body is the body of another human being made in the image and likeness of God.  They want to justify their wrongdoing and coerce others to follow them like the Jews did in today’s reading.  Don’t be a sellout.  Stand up for what you know is right and defend the unborn.
