23 Feb Dt 30:15 (Life or death?) by Stephen Schmidt
“Moses said to the people: “Today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and doom.” ~ Dt 30:15 (full readings)
Stephen’s Reflections: As I thought about today’s readings, I considered that the choice offered by Moses to the Israelites is the same choice offered to us today. Unfortunately, the modern world confounds the two options, sometimes making it difficult to choose correctly. It is easy to forsake the Lord’s commandments chasing after our own prosperity or those things which the world presents as important. We all lose sight sometimes of what is most important. I also thought about how abortion is presented as an alternative, a viable choice, to vulnerable mothers and fathers. We need to always remember the Lord’s admonition in today’s Gospel, for it makes our choice clear. Pray that those struggling with the choice between life and prosperity, death and doom…choose life.
