“For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways.” ~ Acts 3:26 (full readings)
.
Kevin’s Reflections: St. Peter addressed this statement to the Jews who became early Christians, nearly 2000 years ago. The first Pope knew that God offered salvation through His Son to everyone, and in the Apostolic succession of Popes through the years, from St. Peter to Pope Francis, there has been an unbroken line of leaders to show us the way to Heaven. God’s servant blesses us by reminding each of us to turn from our evil ways and toward Jesus Christ. Evil can easily creep into our lives in the form of negativity or pessimism brought about through an illness, a job loss, a broken relationship, or any number of situations that can wrongly separate us from God. Our faith in Him and in Christ is what sustains us, and leads us to Heaven.
