Amy’s Reflections: FAITH IN CHRIST, SERVICE TO OTHERS. These are the words that resounded in my head as I read today’s gospel passage. These same words just happen to be the first thing I see when I enter the doors at Bishop DuBourg High School, where four of my children have attended over the past seven years. Faith in Christ, Service to Others; a school motto intended to build a sense of service in its young students. I have seen these same young men and woman do incredible things for their community in the name of service. Pondering on that thought, I wonder what have I done lately? While service hours are required for high school graduation at Bishop DuBourg, they are not required of me. I am not accountable to anyone to do service work – or am I? If the Holy One, the Son of Man, came specifically to serve, then am I not to do the same? And then, I wonder, whom shall I serve? I am not to serve those who will reward or repay me; I am to serve the most helpless and fragile of this world. I am called to serve the unborn, the elderly, the sick, and the forgotten. This is not meant to be an easy task, but to have Faith in Christ requires us to give service to the least of our brothers and sisters. This service can take form of daily prayer for the unborn, time spent visiting the sick or assisting the elderly, and even financial support of a local Pro-life organization. I realize that I cannot stand by and allow my high school teens to lead the way – I should stand up and join them in the task of service. Therefore, I must commit to service here and now. Jesus came “to serve and give His life for the ransom of many”. Please join me and let us follow His lead and give our lives to the service of others.
