“Someone said to Him, ‘I will be Your follower wherever You go.’ Jesus said to him, ‘The foxes have lairs, the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.’ “ ~ Lk 9:57-58 (full readings)

Rich’s Reflections:  Jesus does not promise that it will be easy to follow Him.  In fact, Jesus gives no incentives to follow Him at all.  Although He could promise us the ultimate prosperity of heaven, He does not seem to emphasize this when He calls us to follow Him.  He is not calling us to follow heaven or not to follow hell.  He calls us to follow Him.  When Jesus calls us to Himself, He calls us to the cross; to suffering, death, and unconditional love.  The true follower of Jesus does not try to get anything out of following Jesus, but tries to get out of that selfish attitude.  Why do people join LIFE Runners?  Are their motives selfish or unselfish?  Even in a race you can sometimes get caught up in yourself thinking about your personal record, your medal, how well you are doing, etc.  We were called to be LIFE Runners not to run for ourselves, but to run for the unborn.  The next time that you compete in a local race with your LIFE Runners jersey, try running with a small unborn baby model in your hand to keep you focused on the unborn and not on yourself.
