16 Apr God Rather Than Men (Acts 5:29) by Kevin McNicholas
“But Peter and the apostles said in reply, ‘We must obey God rather than men.'” ~ Acts 5:29 (full readings)

Kevin’s Reflections: Today is a very special day. On April 16th, 1879, Saint Bernadette passed away, and 48 short years later, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was born on April 16th, 1927. These are two very special people in the course of salvation history, and two people I admire greatly for many reasons. The common thread of these two servants of God is their unwavering Faith. God blessed both of them, and continues to bless them as they have both lived lives of heroic virtue, and have served God and the Church very devoutly. St. Peter, the first Pope, stated that “we must obey God rather than men.” How hard is this for me to do? It is much easier to get caught up focusing on worldly, rather than Heavenly things. This sort of mindset is a foothold for the devil, as he realizes that we can easily be swayed by focusing the allure of things that don’t last, rather than focusing on the only thing that does last, the salvation of our souls. Today I am going to pray for the grace to live heroically for God!
