“I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Scott’s Reflections:  Today’s reading reminds us that the will of the Lord lives within us and that it’s up to us to live that will.  We must be vigilant about doing the right thing, even when it’s exceptionally difficult.  The passage also reminds us that God is ready to forgive us when we inevitably fall short.  On the issue of abortion, we as a society have fallen short in many ways.  Recently, there was a national news story about the public outrage over a trophy hunter who legally killed a few animals in Africa.  While it is easy to see that this might bother some people, it’s interesting to think about the analogy to human life.  Every day in the United States, about 3000 babies are intentionally killed in the womb.  This is done with the approval (and often funding) of the government and with the legitimacy of the “health care” profession behind it.  I thought about this quite a bit as I ran a race with my daughter.  I could think of very few animals that would not make the news with the intentional killing of just 300 of them on just one day.  If I killed 300 squirrels or pigeons and laid them on the sidewalk in front of my house, what would happen to me?  How many thousands of people would call me a monster and rise up to defend those animals?  They might even strengthen laws to prevent it from happening again.  Yet society tells us that we are expected to quietly accept the deaths of over 1,000,000 humans each year.  This is why we must stand up and remind people of the tragedy that is all around us while praying for the conversion of those who are not yet standing with us.

.Faith Challenge:  Find something there are many of in your surroundings today.  Think about how many of those it would take to reach 3000.  Perhaps it’s 60 times the number of stars on the flag.  It might be all the bricks on the walls of a building.  Think of each of these as a precious life we are challenged to save today.

Faith Quote:
“And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?  How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion?  As always, we must persuade her with love and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts.  Jesus gave even His life to love us.  So, the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love, that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child.  The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts.” ~ Mother Teresa
