Kevin’s Reflections: No, we did not bring anything into this world when we were born. We are here because God willed it, simple as that! On our Engaged Encounter weekends, Laura and I often deliver the Natural Family Planning talk to couples. We preface it by having the spouses turn towards each other and we remind them that regardless of how each person came into being, whether or not they
had good parents, a good home, a happy childhood and upbringing, they are now here because of what God brought about in their lives. Had our daughter been born when WE wanted her to be born (a year or two after we were married rather than after 7 years of marriage) we would have been interfering in God’s plan for her. Elliana was born where she was supposed to be, when she was supposed to be, and the things that are supposed to happen in her life will happen because she was born according to God’s timing. In that sense, while each of us brings nothing material into this world, God brings each of us here, and what we give back to him during our lives, in how we serve Him and advance His Kingdom…that is what remains. We carry nothing out, and in Heaven we will be in full Communion with God and all the Angels and Saints. Who would have need of anything else?
* Kevin works at an alternative education program serving three counties in Southern Illinois. He and his wife Laura have a 10 month old miracle named Elliana (“the Lord Answers”) to love, and have been blessed during the 7 years of their marriage to travel to Catholic pilgrimage sites worldwide.
