09 Sep Good Person (Col 3:1-2) by Kevin McNicholas
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.“ ~ Col 3:1-2 (full readings)

Kevin’s Reflections: St. Paul is fairly straightforward in what he says here, would you agree? His words here fit so well with what each of us experiences on a daily basis in the world today. The world tells us in so many ways that we can act like Christians and still do whatever we want, God will forgive us someday, and everything will be fine. God doesn’t have to forgive us just because we pretend to be sorry and continue sinning, we have to amend our lives and live for Him rather than for ourselves. We all have “favorite sins” that the devil knows we are most easily tempted into, and those are the ones we have to ask Jesus most especially to take from us! I always wondered what the point of being a good person was, other than to serve God? The world, in a culture of modernism and moral relativism tells us that there are many acceptable ways to live, and each person ought to choose for themselves what their own individualized version of right and wrong is. Absolute truth absolutely exists: He died on the cross and rose from the dead to save us! He is here with us now, protecting us from sin and leading us closer to Heaven. Jesus’s Life, Death, and Resurrection took place to teach us Who God is, and how we can best serve Him. Our model for life and death is the Son of God. I am going to pray today for the courage to emulate Jesus even more in my thoughts, words, and actions.
