03 May Greater Works? (John 14:12) by Monica Elsinger
“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.” ~ John 14:12 (full readings)
Monica’s Reflections: Does anyone else stumble on this verse, “…greater ones than these,”? How do we go on to do greater works than Jesus? And how do we explain the prayers we have asked in His name that still go unfulfilled? Grappling with this verse is challenging! My reassurance comes in verse 6, “I AM (He is our God) THE WAY (not one-of-the-ways, but THE way) AND THE TRUTH (not one-of-the-truths, but the fullness of truth!) AND THE LIFE (not merely the instigator and creator of life, but HE IS THE LIFE).” Often, my way is not His way. My requests do not go unheard; rather he has a bigger picture that I cannot comprehend. As it says in Isaiah 55:9, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” From our perspective, what looks like a mess can be the underside of a beautiful tapestry that God is creating. He sees the big picture, we get caught up in what looks like chaos. He is a God of order. He knows what beauty He can bring of our struggles, suffering, and heartaches. Will you let Him be OUR WAY, OUR TRUTH, and OUR LIFE?

Through Christ Our Lord,
* Pray/Fast: Prayer connects us with God’s will and His miracles, changing us & helping others. Fast from things that take your eyes off Jesus. Those who pray together stay together, and close to God!
* Save Unborn (and family): Abortion (images) is #1 death cause (22% pregnancies). Prov 24:11 and Jer 1:5. “A great poverty that a child must die that you might live as you wish.” Mother Teresa.
* Evangelize: Make room for unbelievers and re-evangelization of self, by way of prayer (relationship) and following Christ’s example of love (service/sacrifice/mercy). Matt 28:19.
