Paula’s Reflections:  Today on the Feast of Saints Simon and Jude, I celebrate my 59th Birth-Day.  Upon reflection, I realize how different our world was before the legalization of abortion.  Until I was a senior in high school, abortion was not only illegal it was unthinkable.  It was nowhere on the radar screen for most Americans.  We simply didn’t or couldn’t conceive of the thought of babies being intentionally killed before birth.  The news of Roe v. Wade changed my world instantly.  It was the defining moment when human life became disposable.  If a defenseless child could be killed in the sanctuary of his mother’s womb then how could any one of us be protected under the law from evil?  I became acutely aware of the preciousness, the sacredness of Life, of the divine Sonship that we share with our Savior by baptism.  A heightened sense of the spiritual and supernatural took a firm grip on my grief stricken heart.  Looking for answers led me to discover that the Magisterium of the Catholic Church alone stood firm against the evil forces of abortion.  For this is a battle of principalities, this is a spiritual battle that is far greater than we alone can overcome.  So we turn to the doctrine of the Church we look to the leadership of Blessed Paul VI and his prophetic words in Humana Vitae.  We capture the essence of purity and chastity in the writings of St. John Paul II In his encyclicals on the family and on the moral teachings of Natural Law and in Theology of the Body, and we pray for the Bishops Synod on the Family, and as we grow in faith we will become the holy ones and members of the household of God and we will follow in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and thus join with the Apostles and prophets to strengthen and add to the foundation of Holiness.  This is the New Evangelization, this is the new Springtime professed by St. John Paul II.  It is the lay faithful joining with the Doctors and Fathers and all the angels and Saints in heaven, taking a step forward to profess the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all in charity and love.
