27 Dec John 20:3-6 (Hasty Courage)

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided byLIFE Runners (FB). Upcoming Guest Authors.

“So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial clothes there but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb…” John 20:3-6 (full readings)

Rob’s Reflections: As a member of the LIFE Runners team, this passage gives me hope. Not just because I’m not quite as fleet of foot as many of the LIFE Runners, but because all athletes can learn much from both of the “runners” in this passage. The Beloved Disciple ran to the tomb with reckless abandon and arrived there first, but it was Peter who immediately charged headlong into the tomb without reservation upon his later arrival. The Beloved Disciple paused at the entrance to the tomb, but after witnessing Peter’s demonstrated courage and immediate entrance into the tomb, he too charged in and thus “saw and believed.” In our race for Life, we are called to emulate both of these men. First, we are called to defend Life without delay and with the haste this issue requires given its Life or death nature. Furthermore, we are called to run headlong into the battle against the modern “tomb” which is the worldly culture of death. We are called to act quickly and we are called to act with courage.

Faith Challenge: Take a moment to determine what one small thing you can do now to advance the cause of Life. What is it? Send an encouraging e-mail to a friend? Put a Pro-Life sticker on your car? Say a prayer for a pro-abortion family member? Whatever it is, do it now. Then identify one difficult Pro-Life action you’ve not had the zeal to pursue to completion and pray for the courage to plunge headlong into that action when you are called to do so.

Our Prayers: Prayer to end abortion. LIFE Runners Creed & Patron Saint. Add Prayers. Pray with meals, bedtime, wake up, etc. Consider mid-week Family Rosary (17 min). Let’s pray now.

Feast Day: Saint John the Apostle. Identified as the author of the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation, Saint John’s gifts to the Church are many and rich. We draw much of the Mass from The Gospel of John and Revelation. Saint John also indirectly points to the potential cost of following Jesus as he is the only Apostle believed to have died of natural causes. The rest of the Apostles died as Martyrs for the Faith.

Faith Quote: “Do not abandon yourself to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song.” ~ Blessed John Paul II.

Through Christ Our Lord,

* Pray/Fast: Prayer connects us with God’s will & His miracles, changing us & helping others. Fast from things that take your eyes off Jesus. Those who pray together stay together, and close to God!
* Save Unborn (& family): Abortion reality (images)…#1 death cause (23% pregnancies).Prov 24:11 & Jer 1:5. “A great poverty that a child must die that you might live as you wish.” Mother Teresa
* Evangelize:Make room for unbelievers & re-evangelization of self, by way of prayer (relationship) and following Christ’s example of love (service/sacrifice/mercy). Matt 28:19.
