Know Your Limits (Mk 10:27) by Dr. Rich Reich

03 Mar Know Your Limits (Mk 10:27) by Dr. Rich Reich

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘For men it is impossible, but not for God.  All things are possible for God.’” ~ Mk limits10:27 (full readings)

Rich’s Reflections:  As an overachiever, I always pushed myself excessively to do the best that I could.  I created so much pressure on myself to achieve my goals that fear of failure was sometimes overwhelming.  I realized one day though that failure was comforting.  It felt good to learn something about myself and my own limitations.  The words of Jesus in today’s reading should provide comfort for us, because He has revealed our limitations and in the same sentence given us hope; “For men it is impossible, but not for God.”  Sometimes it is difficult to believe that you can overcome sin and addictions in your life.  You may feel helpless in your current situation.  Maybe you have found yourself with an “unplanned” pregnancy or know of someone who is struggling to survive an addiction.  Reflect on the words of Jesus and know that it is impossible for you to overcome your troubles alone.  Take comfort in knowing your limits and that “all things are possible for God.”   When you start believing that with God all things are possible, you will see Him work His great power on your behalf, and as a result, you will be able to trust in Him even more.
