“Jesus summoned his disciples and said, ‘My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat.  I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way.’”
~ Mt 15:32 (full readings)

Father James Dean’s Reflections:  Jesus felt pity toward those who were following Him.  Yes, they were hungry after not eating for three days.  But Jesus knew their greater hungry was spiritual, which is why they had followed Him for three days without eating!  He cured and fed them and they continued to follow Him because they were still sick (with sin) and hungry (for love and truth).  There is still a vast crowd in the world that is sick and hungry.  Where are they going to find Jesus Who wants to cure and feed them if we don’t bring Him to them and them to Him?  My class was told in the seminary by a wise priest, “your job is to lead people to Christ and get out of the way.”  Are we leading people to Jesus and His Church or are we blocking the way?
