“Jesus said to his Disciples: “Whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” ~ Mt 5:19 (full readings)

Grant’s Reflections: Today’s gospel has Jesus teaching his disciples how they should live their lives by not only following his commandments, but by also teaching them to others. He presents the consequences and the rewards as the result of our choices. A wise man once told me, “Every choice we make in life has a consequence”. Our choice can result in a positive outcome, a negative outcome, or an unknown outcome. The use of our free will can result in decisions and choices in life that can lead us to aid and help someone to have an abortion. Or having an abortion. The consequences may not be visible, but our separation from God, the memories, the pain that is felt by the women, and the loss that is felt can be devastating. But Our Lord in His love and His mercy allows us the opportunity to reconcile with Him first and then with ourselves. How do we strive to follow our Lord’s commandments on a daily basis in all that we do? Do we take the time to teach others when the opportunity arises? The reward is great: the Kingdom of Heaven. Let us continue to stay focused on the greatest gift of all, eternal life in heaven with our Lord. May we not be selfish in our journey in life, but also help and teach our brothers and sisters to live their lives according to God’s laws, for the reward is great. Life is precious, let us protect the unborn, and may our journey on earth and the choices we make lead us to eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven.
