13 Oct Live the Gospel (Rom 1:16) by Keven McNicholas
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…” ~ Rom 1:16 (full readings)
.
Kevin’s Reflections: How many times have I been ashamed of the Gospel? That thought really struck me while I was reading what St. Paul wrote to the Romans. He knew he was eventually going to be martyred for the sake of the Gospel, yet he persevered in preaching and teaching and living the Gospel in his daily life. Why do I not do the same? Nothing is stopping me, though I have looked around lately and have seen many persecutions of Christianity in America and worldwide. The culture wants us to be ashamed of the Gospel, and to stop living our lives according to our beliefs as Christians. Society wishes us to become part of every passing trend, to go off in every direction besides that which leads to Heaven. Today I am going to pray for the courage to live the Gospel in every interaction, since Faith in God and His Son is what brings us to Eternity with Him!
* Kevin is a School Social Worker in Southern Illinois. He and his wife Laura have been blessed with two living miracles: a 3 year old daughter named Elliana (“the Lord Answers”) and a 1 1/2 year old son named Jeremiah (“God is Exalted”), and one miracle now in Heaven, may our baby Jordan (8.12.15 – 9.3.15) rest in peace. They have also been blessed during the 9 1/2 years of their marriage to be able to visit Catholic pilgrimage sites worldwide, as well as to serve their Parish and community..

Faith Quote: “Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.” ~Pope Benedict XVI
