Luke 24:27 (do we recognize Christ?)

15 Apr Luke 24:27 (do we recognize Christ?)

Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (, which has snippets from Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He interpreted to them what referred to Him in all the scriptures. Luke 24:27

Living Faith snippets: “The disciples on the road to Emmaus…asking [Jesus], “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?” Jesus responded by showing them the scriptures. Along with the figure of the suffering Messiah, did He point out how God brought amazing life out of hopeless situations? Each time we are faced with some terrible thing, we need the stories of Love [scriptures] that saves us, the Love that walks right beside us on the road.” by Patricia Livingston

Pat nuggets: Several people commented on the “big picture of Jesus” story from yesterday’s devotion, which got me reflecting more about it. When preparing for our move to Turkey (2000-2002), I was afraid the picture would get damaged in the shipment. I actually tried to pack the picture in my suitcase, but it was too wide. Instead, my brother Steve kept it hanging in his home until we returned.
* Joe Castle: “It was painted so the light shining across Jesus’ face reflects the images of the host and chalice (body and blood)–quite apropos for Easter.”
* Aaron Ferrie: “That is one of my favorite paintings. As soon as I saw it, I thought of your room.”
* Dan Castle: “I have the same picture. We hung it right outside the bed room door where we see it every morning through the bathroom mirror while getting ready for the day.”
* Doug Young: “The picture of Christ in my office was from the farm my mom’s parents owned in OH. When they sold the farm in the 80’s, my mom got the picture.”
* Angi Castle: “This is the same Jesus picture I remember being at my Grandma Hansens house when I was little.” [This picture also hangs in the Lutheran church Angi grew up in.]

Faith Challenge: Let’s challenge each other to joyfully live out the Good News. Suggestions?
* NEW: Do we recognize Christ walking beside us on our journey? If not, why? Like the first disciples, do we need more time contemplating God’s love for us through reading the scriptures?

* Let’s never forget the horrific reality of abortion (images)…#1 cause of death in America. Let’s courageously share ProLife Truth (John 14:6) to create social tension for exposing abortion’s unjust peace…rebuilding a Culture of Life (Matt 5:16) and setting the unborn free!

Our Prayers: Those who pray together stay together. Fasting ideas below.
* Prayer to end abortion, abused children, chastity, peace, our enemies, our troops, depression/ despair, prisoners, ProLife politicians, illnesses/injuries, jobs, natural disasters

Through Christ our Lord,
Phil 4:13

* Prayer: Prayer connects us with God’s will & His miracles, changing us & helping others. ‘If you pray that God will move a mountain and He doesn’t, assume Christ wants you to climb it instead.’
* Fasting: Let’s fast from things that take our eyes off Jesus (selfishness, bitterness, being so critical, impatience, gossip, excessive video games, etc) and take on things that fix our eyes on Jesus (selflessness, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, patience, understanding, caring, helping, listening).
* Defend the unborn: ‘Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die’ (Prov 24:11). ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you’ (Jer 1:5). ‘It is a great poverty that a child must die that you might live as you wish’ (Blessed Mother Teresa).
* Evangelization: Let’s make room for unbelievers (be a friend, make a friend, lead friend to Christ) and perpetual re-evangelization of self and those near us, by way of daily prayer (relationship) and following Christ’s example of selfless love, mercy, and service.
Let’s joyfully invite others to join our LIFE Group…Rich or Pat will gladly add them to the devotions distribution list (Mark 16:15)!
