29 May Mark 10:51 (God knows what we need)
What do you want me to do for you? Mark 10:51
Living Faith snippets: “With people in positions of power, we hesitate to ask a favor. With God, however, it is different. Jesus tells us to ask, and we will receive. You and I ought not shrink back from making our needs known to God. When we turn to God in a trusting humility, not only are our petitions heard, we are given what we truly need–eternal life.” by Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti
Rich’s comments: God loves to hear that we need Him. What parent doesn’t love to hear that their child needs their help? God loves it when we put our pride aside and show our humility in asking Him for help. I believe that God sometimes gives us little challenges in our lives to remind us that we need Him. We may not know what we truly need when we ask for God’s help, but God knows us and our needs better than we do. Then you might ask, “why should we pray when God already knows what we want?” My response is that prayer is not about informing God what our needs are. Instead prayer is for our benefit, not God’s benefit. Prayer is to prepare our heart for what God wishes to give us. Lord, I pray that You give us today our daily bread and that we prepare our hearts to receive it. Amen.
