Mark 9:35-37 (Receive the Child)

21 Feb Mark 9:35-37 (Receive the Child)

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided by LIFE Runners (FB). Upcoming Guest Authors.

“Then he sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, ‘If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.’ Taking a child he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it he said to them, ‘Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.'” ~ Mark 9:35-37 (full readings)

Rob’s Reflections: The Pro-Life community should take great comfort in this verse. the daunting reality of over 50 million abortions in this country alone can make this “long war” seem unwinnable. However, we do need not to obsess with somehow trying to win the overall war in one fell swoop. Instead, we can achieve eternal victory by focusing on the daily battle to save even one single child. We know from Jesus’s own words that when we spiritually “put our arms around” a child threatened by abortion, we embrace Jesus Himself. The worldly success of our “receiving” of that child is not ours to determine. Unlike the world, God grades on effort. When we, in Jesus’s Name, love a child who is threatened by abortion, even if they are ultimately slain by the vicious machine of the abortion industry, we are loving more than the child. Regardless of outcome, when we love that child, we love God as well. And it is only through love of God that the world will eventually change.

Faith Challenge: Pause right now and pray Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s Prayer of Spiritual Adoption: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” In your adopting of this unknown, unborn child you have also loved Jesus.
