08 Jul Matthew 10:16 (Pilgrims)
“Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves;
so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.” Matthew 10:16 (full readings)
Steve’s Reflections: Jesus’ words ring like a general preparing his soldiers for battle. He knew we would be hated and persecuted. He knew we would suffer. As Christians, we are pilgrims on a journey living each day like aliens in a foreign land. The world thinks we are foolish and weak, but God has clearly told us that He has hidden such truths from the wise and learned (Mt 11:25). It should come as no surprise that the culture of death has bloomed from the false prophets of eugenics, contraception, pornography, and abortion. All of these evils are working in symphony to tear down the fabric of our culture and the people of God. Today God is calling forth his church militant to stand up and raise our voices. We are not meant to be bystanders or pedestrians in the battle for life. Paul exhorts us, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline (2 Tim 1:7).”
Faith Challenge: Today, when the Spirit nudges you to be bold, trust that it will be God speaking through you.
