“Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30 (full readings)
.
Lindsey’s Reflections: Do we believe Jesus’ words here? Do we truly believe that if we are burdened, we can come to Him and He will give us rest? Personally, there are countless instances in which I don’t take Jesus’ words to heart. What results is that I never exercise the necessary action that begins the sentence – “come.” “Come” is a verb that means, “to approach or move toward a particular person or place.” Thus, it requires action. And this act of coming is a condition precedent to the promise of rest. Jesus will give us rest, but we must first come. But how shall we come? Where shall we go? …To the sacraments, of course! Receive Him in the Eucharist and reconcile yourself to Him in confession – these are the actions wherein we find rest. Once we take that leap of faith and come to our Lord, we’ll find we were never so foolish as to doubt His promise. And as we receive His rest we find that, indeed, His yoke is easy, and His burden light.

Faith Quote: “Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow. The same Eternal Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day of your life. He will either shield you from suffering, or he will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts.” ~ St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)
