Matthew 5:10-11 (The Blessing of Persecution)

01 Nov Matthew 5:10-11 (The Blessing of Persecution)

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided byLIFE Runners (FB). Upcoming Guest Authors.

“Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me.”  ~ Matthew 5:10-11 (full readings)

Rob’s Reflections: I don’t know if I will ever cease to be amazed by the vile things so routinely said about the Pro-Life community by the major media and by others in our culture. I also don’t know if I will ever cease to be angered by the slanders cast against those Pro-Lifers whose only wish is to see that every human being, if they have nothing else, at least has the right to life. Perhaps if my faith were stronger, I would more fully embrace Jesus’s call to consider it a blessing when evil words are directed at those who labor and struggle in the cause of Life. On this Feast of All Saint’s, we are called to embrace the persecutions aimed at the Pro-Life community and realize those insults are, in fact, a blessing and unite us with the saints who have gone before us.

Faith Challenge: Read the Beatitudes now. In what way will you be blessed to live one of the Beatitudes today? Can you commit yourself today to being grateful for your mourning, for your meekness, your mercy, or one of the other tough blessings in the Beatitudes? The next time someone “persecutes you for the sake of righteousness,” remember to count it as a blessing.

Faith Quote: “The patriot, like the Christian, must learn to bear revilings and persecutions as part of his duty; and in proportion as the trial is severe, firmness under it becomes more requisite and praiseworthy.” ~ Thomas Jefferson.
