24 Mar Me? A Minister? (Is 61:1,6) by Pastor Steve Selfridge
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; You yourselves shall be named priests of the LORD, ministers of our God shall you be called.” ~ Is 61:1,6 (full readings)

Pastor Steve’s Reflections: I was a freshman in college, and in the 2nd semester of that year, I was preparing to register for classes for my sophomore year. I was in the field of education, planning to be a math teacher and a coach. I was in line one day when one of the professors said something like “Why don’t you go into ministry?” I grew up in a pastor’s home and had ideas of possibly going into ministry, but hadn’t felt that nudge yet to go in that pathway. However over the next few weeks, I prayed about it and felt God leading me to be in full-time ministry. I changed my major, registered for different classes and finished my degree to become a pastor. So, I am the one to share God’s Word, right? Well, yes and no. I need to share God’s Word, but so does everyone that is a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. How do I know? Because of the reading of the verse today. The Spirit comes to live inside each of us when we accept His grace into our lives. Then we become anointed to do something. And what is that something? To be a minister! Verse 6 calls you and I ministers! I believe God calls ministers to full time ministry within a church. And I also believe God calls ministers within different jobs around the world. So, you are a minister! Today, there is someone around you that needs you to minister to them. The Spirit of God is upon you today because God has anointed you. He has even placed you in a certain place in this world at the right time for this momentous occasion. Who could it be that you should minister to today? Maybe it is a teen. Maybe an elderly person. Maybe a family member. Maybe a fellow runner. Maybe a young lady in distress. Maybe a person who steps into your life today. Minister to them—not in your power, but in the power of God.
