“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”
 ~ Prov 3:3 (full readings)

Pastor Rick’s Reflections:  One dictionary defines mercy as compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one’s power; compassion, pity, or benevolence. Today’s culture presents many opportunities to be offended and unfortunately many respond in like manner. Yet, we’re instructed to shut out selfish behavior and keep kindness bound around our neck. Why our neck? Maybe too apply pressure on our windpipes to keep from speaking hatred, instead of life with kindness. Why is kindness needed so much today? The scripture says we find favor and good understanding, not only with God but also with men. We all need that favor every day to share the message of life. How much further can we influence the end of abortion, if we have the highest level of favor to engage and connect with those who feel trapped in making those decisions between life and death? I hate abortion but I don’t hate people. That understanding and ability show mercy with kindness can be the difference between life and death. Jesus said that He came to give life in abundance.

Faith Challenge:   Let each of us slow down and sharpen our awareness of the power that comes from the Christ-like characteristics of showing mercy and kindness. Take action this week to be intentional in stepping up an authentic showing of mercy and kindness. Ask the Lord to give you strength in this area. When we’re weak, He is strong. Ask the question, “who do I need favor with to spread the message of life?” Remember that Christ is the Truth and Life and we’re His extension in the earth today.
