19 Dec My Rock (Ps 71:3-4) by Doug Young
Be my Rock of refuge, a stronghold to give me safety, for you are my Rock and my Fortress. ~ Ps 71:3-4
.
Reflection: “My Rock” – These words are my favorite ‘word picture’ in all of the Psalms. I have personally been inspired by these verses from Psalm 71. There is comfort in knowing there is a safe haven in which to shelter from the storm. This Rock/Fortress can be in a church building, at Mass or in the confessional; safely inside the walls of a pregnancy help center; or on the other end of a phone call when times are tough. But this takes courage and action. All of these scenarios involve action on the part of those ‘seeking’ the shelter. They also involve someone on the other end of that ‘seeking.’ I am inspired to think of all those wonderful people who have been there for me when I was seeking “My Rock.” There were people there to encourage, to pray with, and to sacrifice and offer themselves to be a part of the ‘Body of Christ”; an extension of the Rock/Fortress we just read about.
.
Challenge: Think of one person who been that extension of the Body of Christ when you sought out your Rock/Fortress. Connect with that person with a card, letter, email or a phone call. If they are not here with us, write them anyways. Then ask God to inspire you to be there for someone else.
