“Don’t be afraid; God has heard the boy’s cry in this plight of his.  Arise, lift up the boy and hold him by the hand; for I will make of him a great nation.” ~ Gn 21:5, 8-20A (full readings)

Amy’s Reflections:  In today’s reading from Genesis we see the plight of Hagar as she wanders through the wilderness with her young son.  She is in a desperate situation with no water for herself and the child.  Hagar sets her boy under a shrub and walks away, knowing there is no way she can save him.  Without our Lord, Hagar had no hope; however, what was impossible for her was possible for God.  God heard the boy’s cries and knew the distress that his mother was feeling. God’s messenger told this mother not to fear and promised to do great things for them.  This ancient passage holds a message that is truly timeless.  There is always hope with God on our side.  Tasks that are daunting and seemingly unattainable for us are possible through our Lord.  With this in mind, we must not tire in or efforts to protect all human life, from conception to natural death.  With this in mind, we must ensure that all those who have suffered loss by abortion know the healing power of God.  With this in mind, we must press on without fear to make abortion unthinkable.  Share your pro-life message with all who are willing to listen, wear your LIFE Runners jersey proudly and without fear, and continue to pray for the change in our culture from death to life.  All things are possible with God!
