27 Feb Noble Adoption (Mk 9:49-50) by Jean Noon
“For every one will be salted with fire. Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” ~ Mk 9:49-50 (full readings)
Jean’s Reflections: Jesus came to save each one, to bring the good news that each one ‘belongs’ and is loved unconditionally by God. This grace is offered not in spite of our imperfection — blindness, poverty, captivity and prison (Lk 4: 17-19) but because of it. The message that grace reconciles and restores is not yet central to our culture. But the March for Life organizers’ message of ‘Noble Adoption’ aligns with grace. In the past, women who bore and gave children up for adoption were vilified as monsters, but hearts are changing and such women are now being seen through Christ’s eyes. This message is salt, light and leaven in the environment! Christ’s message of grace says love is the only path to restoration, peace, truth and life. As the pro-life movement continues to educate and change hearts by bringing God’s spirit of pro-love to every situation and encounter, God’s message from the womb to the tomb will prevail: “You are worthy of love and belonging.” As this message becomes our culture’s message, hearts change, just as God intends.
