01 Jun Not Judging Sin is Sinful (Mt 7:1) by Dr. Rich Reich
Stop judging, that you may not be judged. ~ Mt 7:1
Reflection: The past couple generations have misconstrued the teachings in today’s Gospel to mean that we should not judge others, but allow them to sin. Pro-abortionists often say that they do not believe in abortion, but that we have no business interfering with the “right” of others to have an abortion. When Jesus commands us not to judge, He means that we should not judge without removing the plank of sin from our own eyes first (Mt 7:5). Permitting abortion to exist when you fully understand that abortion destroys a human life and emotionally scars the parents is a sin in itself. It is the sin of permissiveness. Permitting a woman to abort her child is not love, but either ignorance, the selfishness of apathy, or cowardice. We should judge what is sinful according to the teachings of the Church and the Bible. Do not judge sinners, but do judge sin so as to help sinners. We hate the sin, because we love the sinner. Do not stand idly while people hurt themselves. Fight ignorance by educating others about the evil truth of abortion; fight apathy by loving those affected by abortion; and fight cowardice by standing up against abortion. Lord, help me to love sinners so that I may hate sin intensely. Amen.
