one act at a time
“This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.  When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.”

Franz’s Reflections:  One of the greatest things about the Bible is how timeless it is.  I am always amazed on how I can read a passage multiple times and each time get a different message. The reading today from Corinthians is just one of these types of passages.  In preparing to write this devotional, I prayed in front of the Eucharist and asked the Holy Spirit to allow me to see this passage in scripture through a “pro-life” lens if you will.  I have read this particular passage many times and it has meant different things to me in the past, but this time it really struck me on how specifically it can be used to describe the pro-life movement.  When people think of the pro-lifers they often think only of those who pray in front of abortion clinics or those that attend pro-life rallies like the March for Life in D.C.  While these two things are very important to the movement, they are not the only way to support the pro-life movement.  Sometimes this will stop people from realizing that they are in fact part of the movement.  Many people think that in order to be truly pro-life you have to do some grandiose gesture or be a part of a national organization.  People are not moved by the Holy Spirit in the same way, and that is perfectly OK, but I truly believe that we are all called to help bring the end of abortion.  As long as you are doing whatever you can to help bring about a culture of life, then you are doing God’s work.  Here are  just a few of the many ways to help:  become a life runner and enter a race wearing your life runner jersey; join you church’s pro-life committee; donate time and/or money to a pro-life cause or organization; put a pro-life bumper sticker on your car.  Finally the most important thing that we all can do is pray.  Pray for the culture of death to stop, pray for any one who is contemplating an abortion, and pray for all of us who are in the pro-life movement.  Prayer is the most important thing that we can do, because without the help of our Father above the pro-life movement will never succeed.  They say the way to eat an elephant is “one bite at a time.”  Well I say that is how you eradicate abortion, “one act at a time.”

“The greatest danger for family life, in the midst of any society whose idols are pleasure, comfort and independence, lies in the fact that people close their hearts and become selfish.” ~ Saint John Paul II
