11 Feb Order from Disorder (Gen 1:1-2) by Dr. Rich Reich
Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided by LIFE Runners (FB). Leaders.Guest Authors.
“In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, and the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the waters.” ~ Gen 1:1-2 (full readings)
Rich’s Reflections: In today’s readings, both the Old Testament and the Gospel, God creates order from disorder. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth when there was nothing but Him. Then He transformed a formless wasteland into a harmonious paradise. In the Gospel, Jesus healed many who were disordered with sickness with the mere touch of His cloak (Mk 6:56). Scientists understand that the universe naturally moves from order to disorder. This is the second law of thermodynamics. However, God is not natural; He is Supernatural. “He is not the God of disorder but of peace” (1 Cor 14:33). The Culture of Death that surrounds us today is disordered. It is a culture that views the killing of innocent unborn children as a contraceptive choice and assisted suicide as an act of “mercy.” Our culture is not going to change naturally to an ordered state. The transition from order to disorder (i.e., moving from a Culture of Death to a Culture of Life) is only going to be possible through the power of God. Lord, transform our disordered culture by transforming the hearts of those who do not value the dignity of all human life from conception to natural death. Amen.
