02 Apr Our Model (Jn 13:1) by Pastor Steve Selfridge
“Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father. He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end.” ~ Jn 13:1 (full readings)
Pastor Steve’s Reflections: “Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that His hour had come to pass from this world to the Father. He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end.” Have you gone on vacation lately? When our family goes on vacation, we plan and prepare and anticipate that time. Our youngest woke up one day and said “We only have six more days until we leave.” We get excited. We long for the day. Some of us don’t like traveling, but the excitement of spending time with family whom we enjoy is a great blessing. Finally the day comes. We finally get to experience what we have been hoping and planning for. What trauma Jesus must have been feeling as He approached the feast! He knew where He would end up in the temporary and in the end. His whole life had led up to this moment. And now it was here. If it would have been me, I would have been in tears. How did Jesus remain strong? He would soon have to leave His beloved followers. Soon He would endure pain beyond understanding. He would be mocked. He would be betrayed. But He knew. He knew that this was what He had been called to. So He continued. And He didn’t stop. Oh I am so thankful for His sacrifice! Aren’t you? So when that event comes that you are rejoicing about or dreading, may you face it with faith and hope just as Jesus did for all mankind so many years ago, yet is so rich for you and I to think about today! May others say of us what was said of Jesus, “I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” Thank you Jesus for your model.
