Behold our God to whom we  looked to save us.  This is the Lord for whom we looked: let us rejoice and be glad that He has saved us!” ~ Is 25:9-10 (full readings)

Diane’s Reflections: During Advent often we look to Mary as a model, especially during this year of faith.   Always her role is to direct us to the Savior of the world that she held within her, and as mothers do, to teach us faith and joy.  Right before His death, Jesus turned Mary over to John.  However, John symbolized all of us and thus Mary is our mother.  In Advent we think of how Jesus was formed in her womb as her body and spirit cooperated with the Holy Spirit in creating the baby, as it is with all mothers.  After the birth which we celebrate in a few short weeks, she went on molding the child Jesus as she taught Him to walk, speak, care for those around Him.  Yes, He is the Son of God, and yet as a human He had a mother to do the tasks of all mothers in what we call the formative years.  In humility, we need to be like young children and turn to our mother with outstretched arms and invite her to help us become more and more open to the holy within and around us.  Let us join with our Mother in praying for those who need to welcome the child within their wombs as she did, and for each other as we learn the ongoing process of welcoming the Savior of the world.

Faith Challenge: We need to spend some time today, talking with our mother.    We might ask her to help us to be open to the Spirit of God forming us into faithful followers of our Savior.  Rejoice in the Lord.  Again, I say: “Rejoice.”
