Persecution (Jn 5:14) by Matt Laugeman

01 Apr Persecution (Jn 5:14) by Matt Laugeman

“‘Look, you are well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse may happen to you.’  The man went and told the persecutionJews that Jesus was the one who had made him well.  Therefore, the Jews began to persecute Jesus because He did this on a Sabbath.” ~ Jn 5:14 (full readings)

Matt’s Reflections:  In today’s society, when we pick up our crosses and follow Jesus, we can expect to be persecuted just as Jesus was 2,000 years ago.  He healed a man who had been sick for a long time.  He did this out of LOVE.  When we witness Christ’s love to the people we encounter, with Christ’s love, the possibility to “heal” someone can and does become a reality.  He calls us all to holiness and to be His apostles.  Brothers and sisters, NOW is the time to remove the bushel basket from our “lamps”, and let the light of Christ shine, whether at work, home, or praying in front of the clinics!  For in Matthew 5 Christ tells us, “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Faith Quote:  “True love causes pain.  Jesus, in order to give us the proof of His love, died on the cross.  A mother, in order to give birth to her baby, has to suffer.  If you really love one another, you will not be able to avoid making sacrifices.”  ~ Blessed Mother Teresa
