20 Feb Remedy for a Sore Loser (Heb 13:5) by Jeff Grabosky
Let your life be free from love of money, but be content with what you have, for he has said, I will never forsake you or abandon you. ~ Heb 13:5
.
Reflection: I can get so frustrated with different injustices I witness or simply difficulties in daily life that I feel like giving up or losing my joy. I’ve had to remind myself far too often to trust God in all things. It is not easy to do with all the evils in this world. We are reminded today to love one another and be content with what we have, keeping in mind what is most important – the treasure of Heaven. God tells us repeatedly that He will never abandon us. This does not mean we will sail through life without any problems. If anything, it is often in our suffering that we draw closer to Him. There are many ways we classify “losing” in life. We can be poor, sick, suffer tragedies, be imprisoned, or taken advantage of among other countless things. We may even suffer injustice in some way for speaking up for the sanctity of life or marriage. Things can even go so far as, like John the Baptist, losing our very life. If at this extreme we actually lose our life, is there any doubt that God will save it for all eternity? Will He not also honor smaller “losses”? If we let Him, will God not draw us closer to Him in our suffering? Having perspective is key. God is faithful, generous, and loves us more than we can ever comprehend. Let us trust in Him in all things, having confidence that He will never abandon us.
.
Challenge: The next time you feel like getting frustrated or sad over some type of loss, offer a prayer to God thanking Him for being with you through the challenge.

Inspiration: “And I saw the river over which every soul must pass to reach the kingdom of heaven, and the name of that river was suffering. I saw the boat which carries souls across the river, and the name of that boat was love.” ~ Saint John of the Cross
