Rom 8:24-25 (The Marathon of Hope)

25 Oct Rom 8:24-25 (The Marathon of Hope)

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided byLIFE Runners (FB). Upcoming Guest Authors.

“For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. For who hopes for what one sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.” Rom 8:24-25 (full readings)

Rob’s Reflections: Hope. Is there a more powerful word? Hope is the virtue that tells us something better awaits if only we have faith. Hope is believing God has a plan. Today’s passage tells us not only that salvation comes through our hope in the Lord, but also that hope is not solely about us. In the marathon battle against the culture of death, the shared hope that we will change our culture back into a Culture of Life is one of our greatest strengths. In the nine month marathon that is a pregnancy, shared hope is what carries mothers and fathers through the challenges that often come with a pregnancy. Thus the hope of expecting parents is the same hope of the Pro-Life community. It is a marathon of hope that we run, one step at a time, as we patiently endure and wait for the victory we do not yet see.
* Today’s image is of my LIFE Runners family patiently waiting for me to endure and finish the Kansas City Marathon on October 15th. When this picture was taken, I was praying and hoping that the unseen finish line was near. That hope, as Bishop Paprocki told us the night before the race in KC, “gave wings to my feet” (articles below).

Faith Challenge: Among the first words of the Blessed John Paul II’s pontificate were “Be not afraid.” What is causing you fear? What is causing you to despair? Pray now for the strength to have hope in the Lord for He does have a plan and He can take away your fear and despair.
