Run Toward Your Savior (Jn 10:11) by Dr. John Sturm

12 May Run Toward Your Savior (Jn 10:11) by Dr. John Sturm

“I am the good shepherd.  A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” ~ Jn 10:11 (full readings)wolf

John’s Reflections:  The Parable of the Good Shepherd poses a dilemma for us the Laity who are serving as the hired-hand and shepherd.  When the wolves are approaching the flock, the hired-hand’s instinct is to Fear and Flee, or to Love the Sheep and Trust in God that His Power will help us scatter the wolves instead.  In confronting the lies of abortion, we know that Truth will overcome all attacks, so RUN without fear as you RUN toward your Savior and scatter the wolves.  As St. Frances de Sales told his flock, “As long as life lasts, RUN after your Savior.  But RUN ardently and swiftly, for what will it avail you to follow Him if you are not so happy as to reach Him?  Let us RUN then so as to WIN!  May we strive to remain in union with God in all ways and always.”

Feast Day:  Saints Nereus and Achilleus were Roman soldiers of the Praetorian Guard (the emperor’s bodyguards) who were martyred at the end of the first century, and were said to have been baptized by St. Peter himself.  When they became Christians they gave up their posts which they saw as immoral and were exiled and then killed under the reign of the emperor Trajan.

Faith Quote:  “We are going to commemorate the Passion of our Savior. Let us strive to prepare ourselves for it is with great purity of heart (that we RUN after our Savior).  We shall see Him, during Holy Week, on the tree of the cross, consumed by love for us, opening His heart to place us therein.” ~ St. Jane de Chantal (Founder of the Visitation Order with St. Francis de Sales)

Through Christ our Lord,
John
