17 Feb Running Billboards (Mk 8:12) by Dr. Rich Reich
“He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, ‘Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.’” ~ Mk 8:12 (full readings)
Rich’s Reflections: In today’s consumerism culture, many people are seeking signs; specifically commercial signs. People are walking billboards as they take pride showing off their brand name clothes. Companies understand the power of brands very well and the importance of brand equity. Consumers have become so obsessed about brands that they are more interested in the logo than the product itself. Christ understood this as well when He refused to provide the Pharisees a sign in today’s Gospel. God wants us to believe in His power and love without needing a miracle or sign. It is difficult to change the consumerism culture, but as LIFE Runners we can use the infatuation with logos and signs to bring attention to our cause. Whenever you go running, remember to wear your LIFE Runner’s gear and become a running billboard for life so that others may also REMEMBER THE UNBORN.
